Can someone who has no background in art, but great interest and determination be able to succeed in LA?

What is the day to day life of a landscape architect? Is it very physically demanding? (I'm about to be discharged as a disabled vet, with some physical limitations)

I have heard that I need to learn AutoCAD prior to entering a program. What are the best ways that I can do this on my own? Any advice?
