Hello all.
Hello, i am a final year under-graduate student from Manchester University doing a piece of research into gardening. Below i have mapped a semi-structured interview in which i hope to extract some detail into why people engage in gardening. The research will of course keep anonimity for anybody who chooses to reply. I need around 4 people preferably 2 male and 2 female although that is not absolutely necessary. Please do not be afraid to go into detail. If you choose to do this for me i would be most greatful. Thankyou very much for your time.
Alan.
Gender –
1) How much time on average approximately do you spend in your garden per week (relaxing and working)?
2) How much time of this would you estimate is spent working and how much is spent pursuing relaxing leisure activities?
Working -
Leisure -
3) What does gardening personally mean to you? Do you think relaxation in the garden is important?
4) Do you see gardening as a routine necessity?
5) If not why do you garden?
6) Do you believe having a well kept garden is a good indicator of social class? If so or indeed not, please explain why you think this.
7) Do you believe gardening has increased in popularity over the past 10 years?
Why/why not, do you think this is?
8) Do you find gardening to be a therapeutic exercise?
9) Why? Could this be due to external pressures such as an increased awareness of certain risks such as crime? Or the recent increases in financial insecurity on a global scale? Or in particular environmental risks?
