Default I lost a pine tree to a hurricane 2 years ago, what can I plant in the hole?

The tap root still remains but the "hole" is a 7' ugly blemish in my front yard.

Nothing lasts for very long.

I'm assuming the "acid" soil is the problem.

HELP, I'm ordering seeds and plants soon.
