Default If I plant a seed from a grapefruit or lemon or apple, will it grow into...

...a fruit bearing tree? I'd be planting it outside, not indoors. I tried this once indoors, and it just grew into a plant- after three years, I overdosed it on Miracle grow and it died.

Sometimes. A lot of our fruits come from hybrid trees, trees that have been cross-bred to get certain desirable traits (size, flavor, etc.)

Citrus (orange, grapefruit, lemon, etc.) tend to be bred with similar plants, so you will likely get a fruit that is fairly similar to the one you started with.

Apples on the other hand tend to be cross-bred with widely different species, and generally, the seeds you plant will produce tiny bitter fruits that aren't much use to anyone.

However, fruit trees take a long time to grow up. Five, or even ten years is not unheard of before you get it to bear fruit.

Yes, and don't use Miracle Grow on them. Baby seed plants don't need fed for about three to four years, and you should use food for acid loving plants. Byee

Yes, if the seed is healthy, it will grow. you can sow indoors, but they will need to be moved outside for maturity.

It can happen. I grow avocado from the big avocado seeds. It's tricky, as with them I have to put two toothpicks in each side and place it in a glass with only 1 end in the water (the toothpicks rest on the edge of the glass keeping the rest of the seed out of the water). They eventually will produce a few roots and then can be planted. It's a slow process and most often doesn't work that well....sometimes you can get lucky though!

Yes, but it takes years to bear fruit.
