Default Re: Growing Bonsai plants, is it a hobby or a craft ?

Hello,
In real sense Growing Bonsai Plants is an Art. Art in the following manner:

Bonsai, from the Japanese meaning ‘tree in a tray’ uses ordinary tree species to do extraordinary things. Because these species that would otherwise grow to full size are maintained in a miniature state and grown in a confined, potted environment, much care is needed to ensure they are not damaged.

All of the variables in growing a bonsai are so intricately intertwined that it is difficult to successfully utilize one skill without learning the others. Soil type and temperature must be maintained to the proper specifications for your tree species.

A proper balance is an important part of the art of bonsai, most of which is only well learned by experience. Pruning habits and shaping techniques must be mastered well, or damage to the tree is possible. And let us not underestimate time and attention, without studying your bonsai you will miss the early signs of damage which can quickly result in a lost plant.
