I have had much success in breeding finches with seeding grasses,is it because
of the heads?i think so!!!!? i have a web site that i have created just showing the species,of grasses that i use and i find to be useful...i find that having different types seeding at all times of the year to be the best idea so i can provide for my birds all year round.Of course some birds have different requirements at different times but i find that those that use the heads through summer might not use it through winter as much and the one's who use it at winter dont require or use it the same in summer.I have read that some breeders say ohhh my birds die because the grass heads have bacteria but in the 6 years that i have given my birds i can honestly say i have had no loses at all!!!!
I think growing them in your yard can make a lot of difference and i wouldnt get them from just anywhere,as you dont know whats been sprayed etc.
my web page is www.geocities.com/grassnbirds/
