Default Lawn care for busy (lazy) people ??

I am interested in trying to get my lawn to look better, and I can't afford a lawn service so I need to do it myself. I am a very busy person (and I guess a little lazy when I'm not being busy) so I would love it if someone could outline for me a few basic steps that I could do that might make my lawn a little nicer. (Fewer weeds, thicker and greener, etc.) Be as detailed as possible, because this is something I have no experience in whatsoever. Thanks for your help !BTW....I do cut it regularly, that's the one part I AM good about, because I actually enjoy mowing the lawn

Rake your lawn in the Spring and Fall, mow your lawn once a week, and use a 4 step lawn program, such as offered by Scott's. Invest in either a hand held or a push spreader.

If you have thick thatch (dead matted grass) rake it out (lawn-rake). Use a Feed and Weed treatment, (diluted, and watering can applied, lawn fertiliser and weedkiller). Cut regularly ( regularly means when the lawn needs it, not when you feel like it). Water sensibly. When you get on top of the problems, it becomes easier.
