Default what is the best way to kill or remove the weeds and wild grasses that are

in my back yard prior to laying sod My back yard is full of wild grasses and a lot of different types of weeds. I have thought about spraying the yard with Round Up to try and kill everything. What is the best way to get rid of all this crap? Do I need to pull everything out or can I just lay sod down on top of evrything? Should I take a tiller and til it all up and then rake it all out?
