My dog has really churned up my Moms lawn, and there are some really bald, muddy patches. I know I'll have to even out the lawn again, but I want to know when is the best time to put grass seed down. I don't want to buy turf, I just have to cover a few patches.

The dog won't be going back out there for quite a while....she was just looking after him while we were abroad! Thanks for all the answers though....not being much of a gardner...I really don't know where to start!
