Default can you put koi in a normal backyard fresh water pond?

i have a normal fresh water pond in my back yard which is a good acre. i would like to put koi in it but i don't know if they would be healthy. i have a lot of turtles in the pond and alot of trees around it. would koi be the right fish to go with?

No problem at all. I would suggest you talk to a local county agent or a water or wildlife management office about taking care of the turtle problem first. They will cause problems for the Koi, especially since you have a lot of them. Also, generally speaking turtles eat fish. If you have lots of turtles, odds are good some fish are already living in the pond. If you want to turn it into a Koi pond, those will need to be dealt with first.

For a pond that size, I would stick with Koi or fish native to your area, like the right species of bass, bream, crappie or catfish.

All of the natives can be mixed, but I wouldn't mix Koi and native fishes.
