Can someone tell me if houseplants cause dust?

I know that houseplants can gather dust on their leaves but do they actually cause dust? Our house has a few plants in every room (well over 100 plants in total) and we have an unusualy high amount of dust and I woundered if plants could be part of the problem. Thanks!
