how do you take care of a schefflera arboricola house plant?

I bought one that is at least three feet talk at the grocery store. I need to know when to transplant it into potting soil and pot. I need to know how to not over water or under water. This plant is very pretty and i do not want to kill it. Please help. The tag says arboricola Schefflera arboricola
