Default What is a good houseplant that gives moisture in the air and cleans. Anything...

...that will benefit the air.? Its so cold outside so the windows are closed up and the heaters on. Our skin becomes so dry very quickly, even the paint on the chairs and walls have cracks because they are so dry. We open the windows a little to let some moisture in but it doesn't help too much. I head that plants were really good and we have bought three. Two vines and one aloe. My husband doesn't want to buy the same plants so I am trying to find more plants other than these two. Thanks!

Well, you might need more than the 3 you have. I find that spider plants are good for what you want plus they look good and are very easy to care for....I have 8 of them.

Any plant will clean the air and release moisture. It is more important to pick a plant that you find easy to care for and you like. You could look into getting plants that will serve other needs as well - like growing herbs you can cook with, something with a scent you enjoy, or with medicinal uses like your aloe! If it is only going to be for the moisture/ air purifying you will want to look for a plant with a good amount of leaves (this is where they release the moisture and clean) and avoid desert or dry weather plants. For such an extreme condition you may want to look into a humidifier too...
