i've never grown anything before, but just bought my first house & it has a garden window in the kitchen (and a garden out back) i was wanting to start trying to grow some herbs from seed first, can i do that at anytime during the year inside? any tips?

If you have a sunny windowsill and that is what they need; yes. Many people do it. There are herbs that need more sun than others. Basil is one, and it must be kept moist. Parsley does not need as much sun

I've never been able to do that, but I've seen some people (like relatives and friends) grow herbs in their kitchen window, but it was up north. I would guess that it depends on how hot that spot gets I'd guess.

I grow them year round and yes you can...I have mine outside when warm planted in a system I made from common aluminum rain gutter and mounted it on my deck railing, then painted it to match my deck trim..When winter comes I dig them up and move inside for the winter...I also plant and start alot inside during the winter for spring planting..The window you arte talking about will be fine if you keep the temperature inside within the proper degrees..keep in mind though..that the window can also act as a magnifying glass and if too hot can burn them in summer months..also some herbs like "wet feet" all the time, and some like semi "dry feet" so simply search ion the net "how to grow So and so" each herb..it will tell you thier care and maintnenace..heres a picture for ya of my herbs at the present..

You absolutely can grow all year, even without a garden window. Just plant the seeds in any planter, (although a rectangular one with a drainage hole and tray would be my favorite), using a good quality potting mix. Just dig a small ditch in the dirt, sprinkle the seeds, and cover lightly with soil. Water and wait for them to sprout! bYou can thin the seedlings out as time goes by, and harvest the young herbs for cooking every day if you want. Most herbs are easy to grow. Good luck!

they sell those kits for that at wal-mart and they don't cost much. it has everything you need in the kit. good luck and best wishes.
