Grow it like any other plant but as soon as it starts to bud cut buds off top,it will keep sprouting new branches (leaves) to try and bud (flower) again just keep poppin them off. In my garden they bud like crazy every couple days, if you don't and let the flowers stay on the buds will take all the energy from the leaves and your basil will be bitter, short and scrawny, and wont grow any more because its done its job to reproduce. I planted 2 sq. feet in the spring it's October now and I have 4 ft high, 4ft deep and 10ft long rows, its ridiculous. every other day picking up presents my dogs leave me i take 2 minutes and pop them off. my neighbors a chef and he told me to do this when i planted them and its amazing. I am just going to put a little in a pot and keep that because I have a corn field of basil, and nobody but the neighborhood cats eat that much #@!*ing basil.

make sure that the soil is fertilized and has no rocks. plant the seeds or plant and make sure it is watered every day unless it rained over night. always cut ripe leaves and use them to grow in more leaves.

There is nothing to it. You can sow the seed or plant seedlings directly in the soil after all danger of frost is gone.
Basil is one of the easiest to grow and if pinched often will turn into a lovely full bush that will supply you with more Basil that you can use. Just make sure you put it in well drained soil that has been amended with compost and you won't have any problems.

Good Luck
