Default I want to start a little vegie/herb garden but I live in a small city apartment.?

What vegies/herbs are the least maintenance, smallest in size, highest in yield that I could cultivate on my balcony?

Tomatoes work well, you could do most any of the salad greens and also carrots, radishes, etc. You need good light and access to water, also, get some really large, beautiful pots that will make a huge difference in the appearance. You can buy mesculin mix in the seed packets. These are good as micro greens in that you harvest when they are really little.

Any herbs would be good and take a small amount of room. What herbs depends on your taste and cooking. Peppers are a low growing bush plant that gives high yields, and there are some bush type tomatoes that would work as well. Lettuce, cabbage are cool weather plants but they do well in containers too. It is possible to grow carrots as well just look for the shorter but fatter style.

Browse your garden center near you and you will find all sorts of plants but note how much sun light your balcony gets each day most herbs and veggies need at least 8 hours of sun. Best of luck and happy gardening!
