Default Why do I have such a hart time growing herbs?

I love gardening. Everything I do is growing. But not herbs. So whether I sow it directly in the garden beds or in little pots. They are just not growing. What am i am doing wrong?
I had herbs growing in planting pots. I grew mint, corriander, rosemary, basil etc. You name it. I had it also sown in a veggie garden bed, that I have put organic soil into. I just wasn't lucky.

it is common to overwater herbs. Try it again in pots and do not water them as much as you do the regular plants.

I have a tendency to over water plants; I live in an area that has a lot of drought in the summer. I got myself a little gadget that measures the moisture in the ground or in pots. It's a probe ( soilsleuth.com or 1-800-301-4691 ) and cost $7.75. Needs no batteries and It's worth every penny.

have you made sure of the location (sun or shade). And i know soil conditions are important as welI. I too have problems with herbs but in the last year or so, I'm having luck with some, you must also watch out for some don't like to be near others like Rue, or Mint. There are also a lot of plants that hate to be close to tomato plants. Either way, maybe your just not lucky with herbs. I had a girlfriend who could plant thing anywhere, ingnore them and they grew like something from outer space, no kidding, yet i followed every direction and rule i could find and for years nothing. But i did get better in time. Hope things get better, keep trying.

It would help if you knew where your herbs originally grew. That way you'll better understand their care. So many are from drier, well drained soil areas......so putting them in a rich, loamy soil with plenty of moisture will defeat your purpose.

If the herbs are from Mediterranean areas, then full sun, well drained lean soil and don't keep them constantly wet. Maybe they will do better for you in a large container out of the ground.

I am by no means a expert, but I believe that herbs need very little water. But thats about all. Good luck!
