Default Can I bury Dogs in my Garden?

My Spaniel has just had a litter of pups by some mongral down the road.
They're quite cute, but I don't really want them and I don't think I can get much for them.
I am thinking of digging a hole in my vegetable patch, (not much in there at this time of the year anyway) tapping them on the head with a spade and popping them in the hole.
Is this an environtmentally friendly and humane way of dealing with the problem?
And do you think it'll be good for the veg?
