Default i need a recipe for fat balls to feed wild birds in my garden?

I would like a recipe to feed the local wild birds i my garden, we have a good varity of birds, finches to wood peckers, so would like a well ballanced feed for them, i would like to fill coconut shells so it would need to be firm and not to greasy for obvious reasons.

You need the following for my recipe called HoneyButter Balls:
Fresh or Stale bread
Seed
Peanut Butter
Honey

What to do:
-Get the bread and tear it up to make balls.
-Mix the peanut butter and honey together.
-Spread the honey butter on the balls.
-Now roll them in the seed.
-Your ready to feed them!

PS: You can also mush up some banana to put inside the balls.

Hope this helps,
Cockatiel Expert

EDIT: Oh im so sorry i miss-read. Sorry, i left the recipe though if you want it.

SORRY!!!

Just do a search under "suet wild birds recipes" and you'll find pretty of recipes. Here's one I found - http://birding.about.com/library/blrecipe20.htm I'm sure typing in "fat balls" got you entirely different results lol

The stuff you buy at the stores already made is pretty inexpensive. I've seen the suet cakes at both Lowes and Target and they were only about two bucks a piece. They come square and fit into this little metal "cage" that you purchase separately.

I have had a butcher give me a ball of suet (very cheap even if he charges.) I roll the ball in birdseed and hang in a tree.

use lard mixed with flour for the setting, as for what is in it, i would stick with a general, all round, wild bird mix, with maybe a few freeze dried meal worms in there to boot

the lard will set hard anyway, the flour just makes it that little bit firmer
