Default I'm renting a property to someone, outside wooden stairs leading to garden,...

...tenant claims to have fallen... I have a lovely property which i rent out by the sea, its an upstairs flat with wooden stairs leading to the garden out the back, the stairs are in perfect condition, and cost me over £1000 to install, they have a handrail on them, and grooves in them, i spoke to the tenant earlier, and she has claimed to have fallen on the steps while they were wet, and seriously hurt her leg. i would also like to mention, that this woman, has never had a decent job in her life, and lives off the social services... The steps where she claims to have fallen, are in perfect condition, although there's no sign or warnings up around them... I fear she's going to report it, and take me to the cleaners, what can i do to protect myself, any ideas...??

I totally agree with Kimmam... There are special paints with grains in them that can be applied to the steps to help them be less slippery, and there are the slip pads too. They are easily installed and don't cost much. If you decide to do this, and take photos, that would be enough for any court.
Good luck.

You are only liable if she can prove you were negligent.
She can't collect just because she does not know how to use stairs.
Stand your ground.

Take pictures right now! And make sure you have the receipt for the installation of the new steps. All steps are wet when it rains. Wood gets slippery. Unfortunately, grooves hold water. However, you still are not responsible for her injuries. Go to the nearest hardware store and get slip pads for the stairs. They prevent slipping. They arent called that, but hopefully you know what I mean.
You do not need signs or warnings. Just a handrail, which you have. Dont worry about her. She isnt going to sue you. And if she tries, then you have all your ammo. Receipt and pictures.

Get pictures of the stairs. Close up of any special features, like the handrail and the grooves.

Find any receipts for things you bought to fix the stairs.

If you had a contractors help in getting the steps into repair, maybe that person could come to court if she sues. Or at least give you a letter on their stationery that is notarized, as to the condition of the stairs.
