getting a cat of your own doesn't always work,my tom cat keeps finding cat friends and bringing them home to play! The motion-sensored water spray is a good idea, just don't forget about it and walk out there absentmindedly yourself. It would be funny if someone else did, tho. Tee hee. Seriously, a squirt gun is the best idea, but you do have to watch for them.

Depends on where you are for plants in baskets and pots. If your winters are mild or cold. Pansies are always good, and don't pay any attention to those ads that say winter pansies. A pansy is a pansy, they are all winter pansies. If you can get them, vinca major is a good vine to help fill out your baskets, and dusty miller will usually last thru the winter, it's gray foliage is a good compliment to most any other plant. Snapdragons are a good winter plant, if your climate is mild. Cyclamens in California, there are also others but you will just have to go to your garden center to see what is available and what they recommend for your area.
