Default Can someone tell me of a reputable Plant-A-Tree organization (it's for

someone's birthday)? I want to plant a tree for my eco-conscious sister-in-law's birthday, but I want to make sure I'm doing it through a reputable organization.

If you are in the Uk, Sainsbury's sell them, so you can plant it where you like.

If you want somebody to plant it for you and you'll get a certificate from Bill Oddie. The web site below is a good idea.

Arbor Day Foundation is a good start (see first link below).

The Nature Conservancy, Rails to Trails and even some of our national parks have programs that offer tree planting "packages" for lack of a better term.

Across the U.S. there are a number of urban tree planting programs (Chicago's is a good example) that can involve your sister-in-law on a variety of levels.

Of the groups out there planting trees I'd steer clear of American Forest. Their end results for tree planting are... questionable.

Try the arbor day foundation. When you sign up, you get ten free trees with a 10 dollar donation.

I give to them every year... they are one of the first tree-planting organizations...

www.arborday.org

they also have coffee and other gifts...

edit - you don't have to take the trees if you don't want to, or if you have no place to put them, but you can give a gift card that helps save trees and forests, you can even buy single pine saplings that can be kept in the fridge until you can plant them ... they are an excellent organization, and I urge you to read the history of the foundation - it's quite interesting

edit#2 - there is also an E-card donation ... you pay about 6 dollars and you can send a card via e-mail stating a tree has been planted in a national forest in her name ...
