How to care for a dragon tree?

I bought a youngish dragon tree a few weeks ago, I'm following the instructions about watering and sunlight, but the tips of the leaves are going dry. What am I doing wrong?
I'm in student accommodation at uni so places to put it are limited.

It could be the sun is too hot, let it sit in the shade on a porch or something that should help
