Default how do i take care of my sick rubber tree plant?

i bought a rubber tree plant last spring, it had several stalks (if that's the right word) that were each about a foot high. it did well for quite a while, but now seems to be dying. while the stalks continue to grow, the leaves have almost all fallen off. i thought i was over-watering it, so i cut back dramatically and that seemed to help for a while - but now it's looking worse than ever. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

It's the nature of the beast. All Ficus plants all hate to be moved, period!! One way to trick them when you need to move them is mark north on the pot and always keep the plant in the same orientation even if the lighting is switched. If the plants get too leggy you can "air layer" or use a rooting compound. The cut stems will sprout new growth. RScott

Lift the pot. Light = dry, aerate and water. Heavy = wet, allow to dry out.

Best advice, whack it back, pot the ends you cut off using rooting hormone.
