Default How many trees do we need to plant to offset 10.69 tonnes of carbon emitted...

...through flying? Thank you.? http://www.carbonbalanced.org/personal/calculator/calcresult.asp

According to the above website we need to donate £160.35 to offset the 10.69 tonnes of carbon emitted by our return flight from Glasgow (Scotland) to Dhaka (Bangladesh) via Dubai. That's fine but I still want to know how many trees need to be planted to offset 10.69 tonnes of carbon. Please advise. Thank you.

It depends on how long you want to wait for the trees to grow big enough to absorb that much CO2. Wait long enough, and a single tree will do the job. To do this quicklly, (a couple of years) you might need a hundred. It also depends on what kind of trees.

However, while I applaud your intentions--based on what you wrote, the website you cited is a criminal scam. The reason I say that is the figures you cited are preposterous. A flight such as you describe would not use even a tenth that much fuel per passenger.

If you want to plant trees--great. We need to. But find a legitimate organization to send money to --the one you are considering clearly is dishonest.

It all depends on how big the trees are and what type of tree.

NASA did a Clean Air Plant Study and found ten plants that clean the air better than other plants.

On average 1 tree will absorb 0.2 tonnes. Therefore 5 trees for 1 tonne. therefore 53 and 9/10 for 10.69 trees.
