Something growing on a tree doesn't make it a fruit. Berries grow on bushes and they're a fruit. Plus bananas do grow on trees. Whether or not something has seeds makes it a fruit. So pumpkins and squash are fruit. And bananas are fruit too.

It's not about tree vs bush, a fruit is the ripened reproductive body of a seed plant.
