The Creation story is metaphorical. Adam and Eve's decision to eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil (did you know that was the full name?) is symbolic of man's choice to try to make himself God's equal, or even greater than God.

You are basing all knowledge on that tree. I hope you do not deal with logic. Knowledge is not sin--the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil was sin for Adam and Eve. Before adam and eve both ate the apple, they did not know the consequences of good and evil. This was not the tree of knowledge, just knowledge of good and evil. So since they did not listen to God, they found out what good and evil is all about. Thus we experience this in our everyday lives.
