Well, unfortunately our windows block out the precious UV rays that plants need to grow, so only certain parts of the light spectrum can get through, and although your plants may not die, getting them to flower/fruit can be really difficult. You would need really strong light coming through south facing windows and even then some of your more delicate plants like tomatoes would probably not give you enough fruit (if any at all) to make it worth your while. If you live somewhere temperate, then you could leave your windows open often to let the light through. Your better off to grow herbs, which should do better than vegetables. If your really wanting to grow indoors, maybe you should opt for the Aerogrow, it is a lighted system that takes up little space, and you can grow just about anything in it, and even better it is aeroponic (even though technically it isn't, but I don't get into that), meaning that it will grow about 4X faster. It is about $150, plus you have to buy their accessories/seeds, which makes it more expensive than clay pots, dirt, and seeds, but you will get better results . Good luck!
